Altar Guilds are groups of men and women organized to serve God by preparing and tending to the altar in the sanctuary where His people worship Him. Their work is a thank-offering of time and many talents, a ministry of love undertaken in the name of Christ.
Altar work goes on quietly behind the scenes. Guilds care for and put out the linen and silver used in worship. Altar work is a vocation workers are called to do. Talent and know-how are useful attributes, but loyalty and commitment are essential.
The Altar Guild of St. Francis of Assisi consists of four three to four-member teams. Each team serves the Lord one week a month, beginning on a Saturday through the following Friday. Opportunities for all members to come together to share, learn, and understand the guild's goals are scheduled from September through May.
This Altar Guild also pays attention to the flowers arranged and delivered by Lamb’s Market Floral Department, Wilsonville OR, and disassembles them to give to those in need of a special touch of the Lord or celebrating a particular event. The Altar Guild Flower Members plan, organize, and prepare the church for the ultimate celebrations of Christmas and Easter with the help of any parishioner.
The Altar Guild is considered the priest's partner in helping make the worship life of the parish run smoothly. A working manual is used to ensure that the preparation of the altar is completed according to the priest's wishes.
It is an honor and a responsibility of love to serve on the Altar Guild at St. Francis of Assisi. If you have any questions or are interested in more information about serving in this ministry, please contact Fr. Tony Petrotta or any Altar Guild member.
