Visual Arts Ministry

The Arts Ministry at St. Francis is another way we acknowledge the grace and beauty in God’s world. Through the work of artists and photographers from the Pacific Northwest, we enhance our worship with displays in the narthex of the church. A committee made up of St. Francis members selects appropriate art and manages the displays.  Paintings, photographs and other media are typically on display for a month to six weeks. Often, the work of St. Francis parishioners is displayed. We have also displayed the works of nationally prominent artists.

The art display in the narthex is by Susan Schenk of Wilsonville. Susan is a retired Army officer and teacher/administrator who has developed an interesting collage technique. She utilizes scraps of paper, even bits of carpet, to create delightful images of animals, landscapes and architecture.

Susan suggested her display emphasize animals in honor of our patron, Saint Francis of Assisi. The display includes bird nests, wild animals and a variety of dogs.

In a few weeks Susan will be with us following a 10:30 am service to meet parishioners and talk about her work.
