Rector
Father Tony came to St. Francis in 2005 after many years in theological education ranging from Children’s Ministry to teaching seminary students at Fuller Theological Seminary. He has a heart for all ages asking and exploring what it means to be disciples, followers of Jesus Christ in our culture today.
Tony grew up in California and received his B.A from Westmont College, Santa Barbara and his M.A. from Fuller Seminary, Pasadena. He has lived and traveled widely, including four years in the Marine Corps (East Coast and Far East), teaching in the Midwest and South, and studying abroad. He earned his M.Phil.from the University of St. Andrews, Scotland, and his Ph.D. from the University of Sheffield, England. He did further study in Israel and at Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley.
His move to Oregon was a “natural”; his daughter and son-in-law, sister, and niece and her husband all live in Oregon. His grandson, and son and daughter-in-law, reside in Kansas.
Tony has many interests including cooking, running, reading, baseball, church tradition, and sea-kayaking. He has no musical talent to speak of, but his lovely wife, Pamela, is a trained musician and ably makes us for his lack of talent.

History
Born in the Italy of the high Middle Ages, Francis of Assisi became an enigma for his parents, community, and the Church. After being indulged with wealth as a young man, he found much greater joy in dispensing with his material possessions and giving to others. He found that life is richer when it is simple, and he loved all of Creation with its many wonders. His poetry and prayers are filled with appreciation for Brother Sun and Sister Moon and all of the many creatures who share this planet with us. Although St. Francis has been called the most popular but least emulated saint, his presence in our life is always a call to discipleship. As a servant of Christ and of mankind, he commands our attention. Francis of Assisi died on October 4, 1226, after receiving the wounds or stigmata of Christ. His feast day is celebrated annually at St. Francis Church on the first Sunday of October with a special outdoor service which features the blessing of animals.
