Letter from our Interim Rector

Welcome to St. Francis Episcopal Church!

If you visit us on Sunday (and I hope you do), you will be greeted by an usher who will give you a bulletin. Worship in the Episcopal Church is participatory: we pray together, gathering to give praise to God.

All are welcome! You don’t need to be an Episcopalian, or even a Christian – inquiring hearts may find a place here. We are old and young, straight and gay, married and unmarried. Some of us have worshipped here for years; others a few months.

Babies are welcome in the main service, or in the staffed nursery. Children are welcomed to Sunday School for their own age-appropriate examination of Scripture, and then come into the sanctuary to partake of Holy Communion.

The principal Sunday worship is Holy Eucharist, aka Mass, aka Holy Communion. (Our double roots in English Catholicism and in the Reformation mean we have a lot of names for things).

We listen to readings from Scripture, and a short sermon. We then pray the thanksgiving prayer that dates from the very early days of the Christian church, and receive bread and wine that are to us the body and blood of Christ. You are welcome to receive communion, or to come to the altar for a blessing if you are more comfortable with that.

After the service, you will be welcomed to coffee hour (with juice for the little ones). Announcements during the service may invite you to participate in one of the many ministries of the congregation. We may be gathering clothes for homeless neighbors; we may be sewing baby quilts for a local medical clinic; we may be checking in with friends at lunch.

If you have any questions about the Episcopal Church in general, or St. Francis in particular, I hope you will reach out to me. I would love to hear your story.

Jaime Sanders, Interim Rector.
