Worship With Us
The heart of St. Francis is worship. Worship that connects us to God and to one another. As we are connected to God through creation, we maintain that connection through communal prayer and sacraments.
Worship in the Episcopal Church is liturgical. We follow an ancient pattern of prayer, hearing of Scripture, and Holy Communion. If you are familiar with worship in the Roman Catholic or Lutheran churches, it will feel familiar – we share common roots. If you come from a nondenominational church, it may feel strange. We have a sermon, but the heart of the service is Holy Communion rather than the sermon.
Our worship is participatory, and our words are printed in the Book of Common Prayer. You are welcome, whatever your background – we invite you to participate as much or as little as you are comfortable with. Worship in the Episcopal Church follows a liturgical calendar.

Seasons of the Church YearThe solemnity of Lent is followed by the joy of Easter. Advent is a preparation for the new life we celebrate at Christmas, and a looking forward to the new life God has planned for the world.

The principal services at St. Francis are on Sunday morning, at 8 am and 10:30 am. During the school year, the choir sings at the 10:30 service, the Nursery is open for infants and toddlers, and children are invited to Sunday School (coming into the sanctuary for Communion.) Besides these Sunday morning services, we also offer others. During most of the year, we have a small Eucharist (Communion) service on Wednesdays at noon, during which we offer healing prayers. On the first Sunday of each month, at 5 pm, we have a quiet Taizé service, with contemplative chants.
Once a month we offer a service at a nearby retirement community, SpringRidge.

Worship at St. Francis isn’t something “done by” clergy. It is a work of the whole community. Licensed lay people serve as Eucharistic Ministers. Members of the congregation read the Scripture lessons. Musicians sing in the choir, play in the bell choir, and play instruments during the service.

Members of the Altar Guild set up for the service and make the church beautiful, and for festal days such as Easter and Pentecost much of the congregation get pulled into the action. At Christmas the children don costumes to tell the story of the Nativity.

People of all ages are invited to the Altar for communion or a blessing.
Young children receive a warm welcome in the nursery during the 10:30 service.
