First, a huge “Thank You” to everyone who donated clothing and other items for the homeless folks in Brookings. Your response was overwhelming! Thanks to Kent Lloyd, Ed Burnside, Barbara Bridge and Tiffanie Clifford who helped sort and pack; to Lance and Nyla Emory for loaning their Suburban to transport your gifts to Brookings; to Lance and Nyla, Tiffanie, Ed and Bill Frazier for packing everything into the SUV. We were truly amazed that it all fit!
Bill and Ann Frazier drove to Brookings last Friday, and on Saturday morning delivered the boxes and bins to St Timothy’s church. The Vicar, Deacon and several homeless people stacked everything in a storage room, which was filled to the ceiling. Afterwards, Vicar Bernie Lindley gave us a tour of the church and all their many outreach activities: the clothes closet, food pantry, meals five days a week, showers, plus Covid testing and vaccinations for everyone in Brookings. And their most recent project – a community garden that involves several other churches and groups in town. It was truly amazing to see how much this small congregation is achieving, and it has not gone un-noticed by Bishop Akiyama. She will visiting St Timothy’s this coming weekend to help with Covid testing and vaccinations.
