I was hungry, and you gave me food to eat . . . a stranger, and you welcomed me. Matthew 25:35 In an effort to keep our St. Francis community informed about the outreach work of MDE (Mission, Discipleship, Evangelism) that you make possible, we are sharing periodic news about our work together and featuring one of the organizations we support. Read how your generous donations are helping others: Hogar Infantil: a home for children in Chiapas, México. Hogar Infantil is a safe home in Chiapas, México, where children are cared for and education is a priority. Hogar Infantil was founded in 1963 by Nicholas Anderson, an American expat who was living in Chiapas. With just a handful of U.S. donors, Nicholas began taking in children who were living on the street. After Nicholas died in 1977, others stepped in to ensure that Hogar Infantil would carry on its mission: to break the cycle of poverty through the education of children. Many of the children living there today come from very poor families who cannot afford the required school uniforms or transportation to attend public school. Hogar Infantil is located on a farm outside of the main town of Ocozocoautla. COVID-19 cases are rising in the town. Schools are closed. Older college-age students are doing online classes. The need is great, especially now. MDE sends a $350 donation to Hogar Infantil every 3 months to help with their greatest need: monthly expenses for food, clothes, medical care, and education for the children. You can read about some of the children who grew up there and are now giving back to their community as doctors, high school principals, engineers and entrepreneurs. https://www.hogarinfantil.org/stories The Hogar Infantil Board of Directors and the children have expressed their heartfelt thanks for your generous donations.
