ORGAN UPDATE – April 27, 2020

4/27/2020

Rose City Organ Builders (RCOB) were working at St. Francis today. Among the work that they did was:
  • Install lighting fixtures in the organ chamber (the area behind the screen on the rear wall).
  • Install flooring in the organ chamber.
  • Create openings in the walls for wind channels.
  • Delivered (but not installed) the relay panel that will control the pipe divisions of the organ.
  • Replaced the Swell to Choir reversible piston that was damaged when the organ was shipped.
They also brought new fabric samples for the screen over the organ chamber. Several of the colors have changed since we made our initial decision on fabric color. The fabric color that RCOB has installed was not what we expected and will not be satisfactory and needs to be replaced. I made a tentative selection of a new color for the screens. Betsy Yacob stopped by the church and confirmed my selection. I will consult with Fr. Brendan and several other people before submitting a choice to RCOB.

Work on the wind chests is almost completed except for the installation of magnetic valves, wire, winding and regulators. Suppliers for these parts are shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Work on the wind chests cannot be completed until the suppliers open back up and work through their backlog of orders.

In the mean-time, RCOB plans to begin work on the facade of the organ, doing as much of that work as they can while waiting for parts.

As always, feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have regarding the organ project.

Jon Holland
