The Outreach Committee here at St Francis is partnering with St Timothy’s Episcopal Church in Brookings (on the South Oregon Coast). St Timothy’s members minister to the many homeless people in the area and it is the only place in the area where folks can come for help with clothing and other services. Sometimes the members of the church find people in their porch entrance when they arrive for a service — cold, wet and hungry — and they give them warm clothes and something to eat. Their clothes closet is staffed and open three mornings a week. They also offer showers to the homeless. You can read more about St Timothy’s outreach here: https://diocese-oregon.org/congregation-close-up-st-timothys-brookings/ and an article about the challenges that the church faces in dealing with the homeless people here: https://www.episcopalnewsservice.org/2021/06/21/oregon-church-navigates-the-tension-of-serving-the-homeless-amid-communitys-opposition/
Anticipating the winter months, St Timothy’s would love to have a supply of warm winter clothes for adult men and women. We are hoping that you will set aside, until the end of August, any suitable clothing that you would like to donate, when we will be collecting garments at the church. (More on this later!). If you don’t have clothes to donate, consider buying a pack of underwear. No socks, please, a sock company has donated 2,000 pairs to St Timothy’s! In addition, they would also like towels for the showers. If you have questions, please contact Ann Frazier at 503-657-0739 or annfrazier41@comcast.net. Comments are closed.
